The AX80 is a compact, air-cooled industrial diffusion pump engineered for high-vacuum applications that demand stable pumping speeds without the complexity of external water-cooling lines. No moving mechanical parts means exceptional reliability and minimal maintenance overhead in demanding lab environments.
How It Works
Diffusion pumps operate without moving mechanical parts. An internal heater boils specialized diffusion pump oil into vapor, which travels up a jet assembly and shoots downward through precision jet nozzles. This high-speed vapor stream transfers momentum to gas molecules, driving them toward the foreline and backing pump for exhaust — achieving deep vacuum levels with exceptional stability.
- Requires an initial rough vacuum backing before startup
- Uses a small volume of specialized oil (typically 25–30 ml)
Key Features
- Air-Cooled Design: Eliminates external water plumbing — ideal for space-limited or portable equipment setups
- No Moving Parts: Inherently reliable with no mechanical wear components
- Fluid Care: Oil degrades if exposed to air while hot; routine maintenance involves draining, cleaning the boiler, and replacing fluid to restore ultimate vacuum performance
- Compact Footprint: Purpose-built for bench-top and integrated system applications
Applications
- Short path distillation and molecular distillation
- High-vacuum research and analytical instrumentation
- Thin film deposition and coating processes
- Solvent recovery under deep vacuum
